Founder: Veronica Zelada
In the vibrant lands of Guatemala, amidst the lush landscapes and vibrant culture, a girl named Veronica Zelada entered the world in 1962. From a young age, Veronica's life was steeped in the rich tapestry of her cultural heritage, where family, food, and tradition intertwined to form the fabric of her identity.
Growing up in a large family, Veronica learned the value of hard work and determination from her parents, who instilled in her a deep sense of resilience and perseverance. Despite the challenges of their modest upbringing, Veronica's parents ensured that their children never went without love, laughter, or a hearty meal on the table.
As Veronica matured, so too did her passion for cooking. From the bustling kitchens of her childhood home to the vibrant markets of Guatemala City, Veronica soaked in the sights, sounds, and flavors of her surroundings, developing a keen palate and an innate talent for culinary creation.
But life had other plans for Veronica, and in 1982, she made the bold decision to embark on a new chapter in her life. Alongside her husband, Veronica set her sights on the United States, drawn by the promise of new opportunities and the chance to build a better future for their growing family.
Settling in California, Veronica embraced the role of a loving mother, welcoming three children into the world and nurturing them with the same love and care she had experienced in her own upbringing. Yet, amidst the joys of motherhood, Veronica faced her fair share of challenges, including the strains of domestic life and the harsh realities of immigration.
In 1988, Veronica's life took an unexpected turn when complications during her third pregnancy led her back to Guatemala. There, she confronted the ghosts of her past and found the strength to confront the adversity that had shaped her journey thus far. With courage and determination, Veronica made the brave decision to separate from her husband and return to the United States, where she would forge her path anew. Armed with nothing but her culinary skills and an unwavering spirit, Veronica embarked on a journey of self-discovery and reinvention.
From the bustling streets of Los Angeles to the tranquil landscapes of Oklahoma, Veronica's journey led her to unexpected places and new beginnings. Along the way, she honed her craft, drawing inspiration from her cultural roots and infusing each dish with the flavors of her homeland.
In 2006, Veronica's dream became a reality when she opened the doors to Cafe Kacao, a culinary haven that celebrated the vibrant flavors and rich traditions of Latin American cuisine. From its humble beginnings to its status as a beloved culinary destination, Cafe Kacao became a testament to Veronica's dedication and passion.
Today, Veronica's story continues to inspire all who walk through the doors of Cafe Kacao. Her journey serves as a reminder that with determination, perseverance, and a dash of spice, anything is possible. As Veronica herself often says, "Life is a journey, and every meal is an adventure waiting to be savored."
